Somedays you just need an inspiring book to read. to get you back on your feet. i have read Eat, Pray, Love before but I suppose I didn't really READ it. Read it with a skimming and a oh hmmm this sounds good kind of attitude.
After beauty school I took January off (for the most part) to do some serious suching (sue searching). Yes I lost myself and didnt know where I was or how to find me. Beauty School was the most draining thing I have ever done and by the end of it I was emotionally EXHAUSTED to the max. So off I went homeward bound with high hopes of coming back and loving my job and being ready to face the world again. Wrong-o was I on that one. Maybe it's just because it's my first days back and starting something new, so training training training. but dear blogging world I feel as though in my little world of school I learned nothing that helps me with this job. Not to mention I feel that cosmetologists are not nice is scarred forever on my back of the hand to remind me every time i look at it that not only Harry Potter agrees but that they really are not nice!
So about Eat, Pray, Love. As I was intently reading this fabulous book tonight I KNEW how she felt. I feel like Elizabeth Gilbert wrote these wonderful pages to inspire me to become all I want to be and to remind me along the way that it's ok to want something and then go get it as she says "What do YOU want Liz(Susan)? Most the time I didnt even dare to answer the question, but just thrilled privately to its existance. And when I finally started to answer, I did so cautiously. I would only allow myself little baby-step wants, Like:..." (I want to be happy, to sing this song, to swim in that river) those are my baby step wants.
Bigger wants:
I DON'T KNOW! this is where the scar on my hand, but really in my head, starts to flame up and say I am here to ruin all your hopes and dreams.
This is what Elizabeth came up with that she really wanted. Profoundly. Said. Inspiring. Lady. "I want to have a lasting experience of God, Sometimes I feel like I understand the divinity of this world, but then I lose it because I get distracted by my petty desires and fears. I want to be with God all the time... I guess what I want to learn is how to live in this world and enjoy its delights but also devote myself to God." and this is the answer that she got. "You must keep your feet grounded so firmly on the earth that it's like you have four legs instead of two. That way you can stay in the world. But you must stop looking at the world through your head. You must look through your heart, instead." Couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you Elizabeth Gilbert for reminding me that I need to stop focusing on me and start focusing on others and the world as a whole.
The best thing this dear book tells me is, "Traveling is the great true love of my life." which it is and that makes me feel like I am connected with this dear author on an even deeper level.
life goal: travel to every continent.
what i want to be when i grow up: possibly a flight attendent. not possibly. it is my next dream. THIS IS WHAT I WANT for me at some point.
love yourself a little more please,
sue
